1. Plan for a big, tall lobby
- Newer towers around Thanisandra, Hennur and Yelahanka often have double-height lobbies with glass fronts. Small diya clusters disappear in them. Put the light strings at eye level along the reception wall and frame the main door, not the ceiling.
- Make the rangoli bigger, not busier: one 5x5 ft design in front of the lift lobby reads better than three small ones.
- Glass fronts reflect at night. Test the light layout after dark once before the main evening.
2. Count before you buy
| Per lobby (typical) | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Warm-white string lights, 10 m | 3 strings (4 for a double-height entrance) |
| LED diyas (oil only outside the entrance, if allowed) | About 24 |
| Rangoli colour + 1-2 stencils | 2-2.5 kg for a 5x5 ft design |
| Extension board with switch, cable ties, tape | 1 set |
Two or more blocks? Multiply, add 10% spare, and buy in one order so the light shades match.
3. Do it on a Saturday
- Volunteers who commute to the ORR or the airport side rarely get home before 8 pm on weekdays. Saturday 31 Oct or Sunday 1 Nov afternoon works better than a weekday evening.
- Rangoli goes last, after the lights are up, so nobody walks through it with a ladder.
- Name one person per block in the main group, and one coordinator who walks every lobby at the end.
4. Power cuts, gate and housekeeping
- Evening power cuts still happen in parts of North Bangalore. Ask the facility team whether the lobby sockets are on DG backup. If not, keep battery LED diyas near the lift so the lobby isn't dark when the strings go off.
- Pre-approve the delivery on your visitor app (MyGate, NoBrokerHood or the gate register) and tell the guard which gate. Many larger layouts have a separate service gate.
- Tell housekeeping not to sweep the rangoli the next morning, and agree a take-down date now.
5. Timeline for Diwali 2026 (8 Nov)
- By 20 Oct: committee approves design and budget in the main group.
- By 27 Oct: order placed, block volunteers named.
- By 30 Oct: everything delivered and lights tested.
- 31 Oct - 1 Nov (weekend): decoration afternoon.
- By 15 Nov: take-down; LED diya batteries out before storage.
6. A message you can paste in the association group
"Diwali lobby plan: lights framing the main door + reception wall, ~24 LED diyas by the lift, one big rangoli. Setup Saturday 31 Oct afternoon, need 2 volunteers per block for 2 hours. Reply with your block and name. Take-down by 15 Nov."
Single lobby? Use the Diwali lobby decoration checklist. Flames or LED? LED vs oil diyas. Other areas: HSR, Koramangala and Bellandur · Whitefield and Sarjapur Road · JP Nagar and Electronic City.
