1. Measure what you actually have
- Stand at the gate and take one photo of the entrance, one of the lift landing. That's your whole canvas in most buildings here.
- Check the floor: rangoli on polished granite smudges with every footstep. Put it beside the entrance steps or on a mat-sized patch next to the lift, not in the walking line.
- Lift landings are narrow. Lights go on the wall above head height; diyas go on a ledge or the reception counter, never on the floor near the lift door.
2. What fits a small lobby
| Item | Small lobby (one block) |
|---|---|
| Warm-white string lights, 10 m | 2-3 strings: entrance arch + one wall |
| Diyas (LED inside the building) | 12-24, grouped, not scattered |
| Rangoli colour + stencil | 1-1.5 kg for a 3x3 ft design |
| Extension board with switch, cable ties, tape | 1 set, run from the security cabin or lobby socket |
Two blocks? Same kit twice, same colours, so nobody compares.
3. Power and the guard
- Older buildings in Koramangala and HSR often have one free socket in the lobby, sometimes none. Ask the facility person which socket is on the common-area meter before buying lights.
- Tell the security guard the timing: lights on at 6 pm, off at 11 pm, every day till the take-down date. A cheap plug-in timer saves the argument.
- Bellandur and Sarjapur Road societies usually log every delivery in a visitor app. Pre-approve the decor delivery so it doesn't get turned back. More in the gate and security rules guide.
4. One evening, three people
- One person on lights (needs a stool and cable ties).
- One on rangoli (stencil first, colour after, 45 minutes).
- One on diyas and the final photo for the group.
Start after the evening parcel rush (around 7:30 pm) so you're not working around delivery riders at the entrance.
5. Timeline for Diwali 2026 (8 Nov)
- By 20 Oct: photo of the lobby shared in the group, budget agreed.
- By 27 Oct: order placed, three volunteers named.
- By 3 Nov: delivered, lights tested on the actual socket.
- 5-6 Nov: decoration evening.
- By 15 Nov: take-down, LED diyas and lights back in one labelled bag.
6. A message you can paste in the association group
"Diwali lobby plan: 2-3 light strings at the entrance, ~20 LED diyas by the lift, small rangoli beside the steps. Need 3 volunteers for one evening, 5 or 6 Nov after 7:30 pm. Reply with your name. Delivery by 3 Nov, take-down by 15 Nov."
