1. Small lobby (older JP Nagar / Jayanagar-side blocks)
- Lobbies here are often a narrow passage between the gate and the lift. Keep the floor clear: rangoli at the entrance step, not in front of the lift where people with bags turn.
- Run the light strings along the staircase railing and the door frame. One string per floor landing is enough if the budget allows.
- Oil diyas only on the outside step, and only if the association allows them. Inside, LED diyas near the letterboxes.
2. Many towers (Bannerghatta Road, Kanakapura Road, Electronic City)
- Decide first: every tower lobby, or the clubhouse plus the main gate only. With 10+ towers, a matching set in every lobby is what residents notice, so buy all of it in one order so the light shades match.
- One volunteer per tower, one coordinator for the whole layout. Put the tower list in the group so gaps are visible.
- Use the clubhouse or main-gate entrance for the one big rangoli; tower lobbies get lights + diyas only.
3. Count before you buy
| Per lobby (typical) | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Warm-white string lights, 10 m | 3 strings (2 for a small lobby) |
| LED diyas | About 24 |
| Rangoli colour + 1-2 stencils | 1.5-2 kg for a 4x4 ft design |
| Extension board with switch, cable ties, tape | 1 set |
Multiply by the number of lobbies and add 10% spare.
4. Volunteers on shifts
- Electronic City and Bommasandra have many shift workers. Post two setup slots (Saturday morning and Sunday evening) instead of one, and let people pick.
- Rangoli goes last, after the lights are up, so nobody walks through it with a ladder.
- Kids love the stencil part. Give them the clubhouse rangoli and an adult with the colour bags.
5. Gate, power and housekeeping
- Pre-approve the delivery on your visitor app (MyGate, NoBrokerHood or the gate register) and tell the guard which gate. Large layouts on Hosur Road and Kanakapura Road usually have a separate service gate for vendors.
- Ask the facility team whether lobby sockets are on DG backup, and keep a few battery LED diyas near the lift for power cuts.
- Tell housekeeping not to sweep the rangoli the next morning, and agree a take-down date now.
6. Timeline for Diwali 2026 (8 Nov)
- By 20 Oct: committee approves design, budget and which lobbies get decorated.
- By 27 Oct: order placed, tower volunteers named.
- By 30 Oct: everything delivered and lights tested.
- 31 Oct - 1 Nov (weekend): two setup slots.
- By 15 Nov: take-down; LED diya batteries out before storage.
7. A message you can paste in the association group
"Diwali lobby plan: lights on the door frame + railing, ~24 LED diyas per lobby, one big rangoli at the main gate. Two setup slots: Sat 31 Oct 10am and Sun 1 Nov 5pm, need 1 volunteer per tower for 2 hours. Reply with your tower and slot. Take-down by 15 Nov."
